Sunday Hike

Finally, we got out to Lighthouse park again today.  It seemed like for the longest time our weekends were really busy! Today we packed a snack and lunch and went out for the morning. Hailey has been a bit fussy with her teeth (she got 5 teeth and another one on its way all in the past 2 weeks!), so it was sort of a short hike. Also, she fusses quite a bit lately which I recently realized it's because she won't go #2 in her diaper. I thought for the longest time it's because she would get constipated, but all this time she just keeps holding it in as much as she can and goes on the potty. I'm going to have to start  a routine with that as well I guess!
Anyway, here are some photos from the day.

2013!

So far 2013 started off quite amazingly! I have good feelings about this year :)
I haven't mentioned this in my blog nor have I really told many people but shortly after Hailey's birthday we had her checked by a specialist because she wasn't progressing in any gross motor skills. Prior to this we had been seeing a physiotherapist (on our own initiative since our doctor didn't seem too worried) to correct/work with this but the therapist sort of just kept telling us to work on the exercises and that she will eventually do it. This was a nice "filler" at the time, to get me working with Hailey but I wasn't really happy with her diagnosis. I was on an emotional roller coaster. One day I felt great and not too worried since no one else seemed so and the next I felt depressed and concerned that there was something not right. It especially hurt to see other babies progress and by pass Hailey in these skills by a long shot. I kept telling myself what everyone else told me "every baby is different, and she's just taking her time", but when you're in that position, how can you not worry? I kept thinking it was something I did wrong or wasn't doing.
They finally diagnosed her with lax joints creating hypotonia..or low muscle tone. If you know Hailey or seen her in action. She goes to laying in full on splits and can even hover in that position for a while without it even bothering her in the slightest. She also goes to sitting in that way as well.
Her fine motor skills have been great since I can't even remember and she eats whatever we eat! The doctor also said if her case wasn't mild she wouldn't be able to bear weight without the help of some sort of brace for her ankles. So, for her it is only because her joints are flexible and the muscles surrounding the joints need to be strengthened.
So, after seeing a different physiotherapist referred by the specialist, Hailey quickly and I mean quickly progressed.
On Jan 1, one week after her 1st physio appointment, she stood up on her own! A few days later (yesterday) she started cruising around her activity table. She is all over the place and has gotten very good at walking with support. I have never felt happier! Mostly because someone listened to me...for once! I predict that she will probably be walking earlier than I initially thought after the diagnoses at this rate!
On a different note. My resolution this year is to just be more positive. I have been really dragged down with this whole situation and now that  I see progress (with a lot of hard work on our part!), it makes me feel better.  I plan to do a monthly good deed or act of kindness. Today Hailey and I went and donated a big bag full of Hailey's younger toys to a shelter. It was really nice to do since I've been wanting to help out some maybe young moms who don't have much money and to maybe help a baby get some cute toys who other wise may have nothing.
In the following months I plan to do other small things like put money in a parking meter for someone, make a money donation to the childrens hospital...things like that. I still haven't come up with the whole list but I also want to be sort of sporadic with it as well!
Happy 2013 everyone :)
